We offer
clients strategies to reduce the risk of data loss and methods
to allow them to recover in the event of a lost server as
quickly as possible. A combination of the following strategies
is employed based upon consultation with clients and their
budgets and expected recovery times
Strategy 1 -
On Windows 2003 Shadow Copies – on the main file server we can
turn on Shadow Copying for Microsoft and take differential
changes as they occur throughout the day on the server. This is
limited to the amount of available disk space
Strategy 2
–Tape Drives can be used to store critical data and these can be
sent offsite on a daily basis. Monthly tapes can be kept to
store or archive data. We recommend at a minimum that a client
has 1 month's worth of tapes in their back up rotation and
archives 1 tape each month on a permanent basis
Strategy 3
–Server Imaging software – We use Acronis true image to take an
entire image or a "snap shot" of the server on a nightly basis
to an external hard disk. This hard disk can then be rotated by
being sent offsite and be used not only to recover the data as
per option 1 ,2 but recover the entire server . When using the
Universal restore version, the whole server can be restored to
the same or different hardware
Strategy 4 -
Internet based offsite backup. Using R1soft we can achieve
rolling backups throughout the day to a secure server offsite.
This is dependant upon your internet speed and performance
Strategy 5
- using XISOFT from Computer Associates clients that have a
requirement for near 100% uptime can have redundant servers
located onsite or offsite which replicates their environment
